Tesla Motors was founded in 2002 to create electric cars that exemplify the highest standards of automotive performance, efficiency and design. SDL Ventures was the first institutional investor in Tesla. Its first product, the 100% electric Tesla Roadster sports car, is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in about four seconds. The company has delivered over 1,500 Roadsters to customers so far. Tesla also sells patented power train components to other automakers, such as Daimler Benz. The company currently offers a variety of all-electric cars and the new Model X SUV. Tesla completed a very successful IPO in June 2010. |
